BREAKING BARRIERS: EVALUATING THE INFLUENCE OF MICRO LENDING INSTITUTION POLICIES ON EMPOWERING JORDANIAN WOMEN
Main Article Content
Abstract
Jordan, an upper middle-income country facing economic challenges, has a significant untapped resource in its female population. Women comprise half of the country's population, but their contribution to the national income is underutilized. Gender inclusion in Jordan's economy could substantially boost its GDP. However, women in Jordan face various hurdles, including lower wages, limited property rights, and the dual role of homemaker and breadwinner. Unemployment rates among women remain high, and self-employment rates have declined. To address these issues, entrepreneurship can provide a viable solution by creating opportunities for women to support their families independently. Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) have been recognized as a key driver of economic growth and equitable development in Jordan, offering significant employment potential at a low capital cost.
