EVOLVING SUCCESS: GENETIC ALGORITHMS APPLIED TO ASSESS MSME PERFORMANCE IN THE MEXICAN MARKET
Main Article Content
Abstract
In Mexico, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a pivotal role in the country's economic landscape. They have evolved and adapted over the years in response to changing economic models and government policies. Initially, MSMEs emerged in the context of import substitution, and their growth was driven by learning, development, and survival. In the 1970s, international competition increased, leading to many closures. The 1990s brought economic liberalization and access to external financing, but the weak domestic economy still posed challenges.
Today, the classification of companies considers various factors, including economic sector, number of employees, and annual sales. This classification places MSMEs at the forefront, accounting for 99% of the country's economic units. Despite historical shifts and challenges, MSMEs continue to be a vital component of Mexico's economic landscape, with significant implications for the nation's economic growth and development.
